In 2002 UNESCO has included numerous architectural, artistic and monumental masterpieces of the city of Ragusa in the list of World Heritage properties. Following the earthquake of 1693 that completely destroyed it, Ragusa was rebuilt together with churches, palaces and monuments in Baroque and late Baroque style.

The southern coast of Sicily, and therefore the area that mainly concerns the province of Ragusa, is known for being characterized by long beaches with golden sand and crystalline sea.
